The husband, daughter and a colleague of a Higashi-Murayama, Tokyo, city assembly member who fell to her death from a local condominium in September, filed a request on Friday with the Tokyo District Court seeking an order to disband the religious organization Soka Gakkai.

The late assemblywoman, Akiyo Asaki, 50, was reportedly critical of the powerful lay Buddhist organization.

They claim that Soka Gakkai has not conducted activities in line with its registered stated purposes for the past four years. The filing of the application, they argue, is based on the Religious Corporation Law that stipulates a disbandment order can be sought in such cases. The three also claim the group has engaged in many illegal activities.
